Acadian Flycatcher |
|
The Acadian Flycatcher, also known as the green-crested flycatcher, is the largest and greenest of the birds in its genus. They mainly feed on insects and insect larvae. These small 15cm birds build a shallow thin nest made of spider and insect silks generally above water. They set up their nest in a horizontal fork of a tree or shrub. For decorative purposes these small birds like to hang materials by strings of silk below the nest. These birds breed in deciduous forests, often near water, laying 1-4 eggs at one time. Acadian Flycatchers are excellent flyers being able to hover and even fly backwards.
