Allen's Hummingbird
The Allen's Hummingbird breed in moist coastal areas, in scrub, chaparral and forests. Their nests are made of plants with an outer layer of foliage and grass and covered in moss, bark and web. Their nests are found in shrubs or the fork of a tree. The males prefer their nests to oversee open areas on the coast while females prefer nest sites in denser vegetation. These birds are excellent fliers and can catch their meal of insects mid-flight, or pluck them from branches. When eating nectar or tree sap they can hover over the area as they eat.
