American Avocet
The American Avocet is an independent bird living in shallow fresh and saltwater wetlands. Their nest is a hole in the ground and can be completely bare or can be lined with grass, foliage, feathers, pebbles or other small materials. Laying 1-4eggs at one time, these hatchlings are ready to leave the nest within 24hrs of hatching. These day old hatchlings can walk, swim and dive in the water. The American Avocet eats aquatic invertebrates by snapping them up from the shallow waters as it swims.
