American Pipit |
|
The American Pipit is a social bird feeding in large flocks in fall and winter. They feed on insects and seeds. The American Pipit has an odd habit when foraging for food. It tends to walk or run around with its beak to the ground, pecking at the ground while frequently changing directions. This bird breeds in the arctic and alpine tundra and nests on the ground with overhanging foliage. The Pipit is often mistaken for a sparrow, although it can be distinguished by its thin beak and habit of bobbing its tail.
