American White Pelican
The American White Pelican is one of the largest birds in North America. Although it winters along the coast, it will breed only inland. Courtship will last one week before a couple build a nest together and lay usually 2-3 eggs. The White Pelican will sometimes co-operatively fish, moving in a circle, concentrating the number of fish and then ducking their heads under the water simultaneously to scoop up fish. Each pelican will eat around four pounds of food a day. Unlike the Brown Pelican the White Pelican will only duck its head under the water rather then diving under.
