American Woodcock
The American Woodcock feeds on invertebrates, especially earthworms. Its unique flexible tip of its bill is specialized for probing in dirt and catching earthworms. The Woodcock lives in forest openings and shrubby areas. The male woodcock has an elaborate display to attract the female and will continue to display long after the female has laid eggs. The male will go to several breeding grounds to display and may mate with several females. He gives no parental care but leaves the female with the chicks. Chicks are totally dependent on their mother for the first week.
