Bachman's Sparrow |
|
The Bachman's Sparrow is a small american sparrow that is found exclusively in the southeaster areas of the United States. This species was named in honor of Reverend John Bachman, a social activist and naturalist in the 1800's. This small sparrow breeds in open pine forests. Its nest is usually built on the ground near the bushes or tall grass. Females lay between 3 and 5 eggs at one time. The Bachman's Sparrow mainly eats grains but is also known to eat insects. Unfortunately this bird is considered threatened due to habitat loss.
