Baird's Sandpiper
The Baird Sandpiper breeds in dry coastal and alpine tundra. It migrates and winters in grassy marshes and dry grassy areas near lakes and ponds, very rarely away from water. It nests on the ground and covers the nest in down. The female will lay a clutch of eggs up to 120% of her own body mass in four days shortly after arriving at her breeding ground. A defining feature of the Baird's Sandpiper are the long wings that extend beyond the end of the tail when at rest, only one other sandpiper breed has this feature. This sandpiper eat mainly insects.
