Band-tailed Pigeon |
|
The Band-Tailed Pigeon breeds in wet coniferous forests along the Pacific Coast, and also in mixed evergreen forests. It feeds on seeds, fruit, acorns, pine nuts and flowers. They feed on the ground or in trees. They also feed in flocks at times and travel long distances to gather food. A study from Oregon showed the band-tailed pigeon can travel as far as 3.1 miles from it nest to find food. Its nest is a flat and saucer shaped made of loosely entwined twigs and secured on a tree limb.
