Barn Swallow
The barn swallow is found in many habitats with open areas for feeding and structures for nesting, including bush areas and cities. The barn swallow needs mud and grass for building its nest, creating a cup, then lining it with fine grass, hair and feathers. They attach their nests to a vertical wall under an overhang or on a ledge. The Barn Swallow feeds on insects catching them in flight, often when close to the ground. The female swallow has a preference for male swallows with the longest and most symmetrical tails. Unmated male swallows are often violent against those with a mate.
