|
The Parakeet is a broad term for any such bird of a huge number of disparate tiny to mid-sized species of parrot that have extensively long tail feathers. The Budgerigar, one of the bunch, also called budgie for short, hails from Australia. They are frequently seen and highly popular throughout the entire world. In the United States, the term parakeet and gypsy parrot are other names for this type of bird. This is inaccurate because there are several species of parrot. The colors of most parakeets are blue, yellow, green, and albino is produced through breeding. There is also a term called grass parakeet and grasskeet which reference a big number of large Australian parakeets native to grasslands such as the famous Neophema and Princess Parrot, to name a few. Australian rosellas are actually parakeets, and their distinct coat is a dazzling and beauteous spectacle to all who see it. The largest parakeet is the Alexandrine parakeet. Another type of parakeet is the ringneck parakeet which is a word to sum up African and Asian parakeet species in the Psittacula genus. In some circles in aviculture, there is a more accurate term for small to mid-size parakeets from South America called conure. Taxonomists are against the term because they are not all from one genera. The Brotogeris parakeet, monk parakeet, and lineolated parakeet are some other types of parakeets. Some parakeets, if they are larger, are referred to as parrots. Alexandrine parrot and alexandrine parakeet means the same thing and can be used interchangeably. Some prefer the term paroquet, and it is of older orthography. Interestingly, long-tailed lories are called lorikeets. Some parakeets are adept at mimicing human words or sounds. Some birds can attack each other. They munch on seeds and fruit. Some even try to escape from their cages, but the bars may be just so big that they can actually get caught. Parakeets have the most gigantic number of species for all bird life. Parakeet translates to long tail. Most parakeets have tails that are elongated from 7 to 18 inches. They have miniature bodies and long tapered tail feathers. They come in a dazzling array of colors and they are timid when first introduced to human owners. Use an inside voice and move a little closer to the parakeet to assure him that everything is all right. With enough time, training, and socialization they will learn to trust you as their owner. Some experts suggest that parakeets learn best from women and children when learning to mimic human speech and talk for entertainment. This is because they can mimic the pitch of their voices more easily. They can be taught to jump across hands, kiss, and climb up ladders or ring on bells that are placed within range in their cage. Training is something that should not be forgotten when raising your parakeet. Parakeets resemble dogs and cats in that they have a fondness and affection for their owners. They are great companions. Owners remark that parakeets are known to chirp in a flurry of feathered excitement when their owners walk through the front door, and they are more likely to want to be around the member of the family they have created a bond with. They are known to crave attention, and they love to be cuddled and caressed like any good pet should. However, the fact that they are birds and not other more intelligent mammals, makes this a peculiar phenomenon. Parakeets enjoy exercise outside of the cage, but they should be carefully monitored to make sure they don't hurt anything in the house or inadvertently hurt themselves. Owners should be aware of the fact that their beaks grow up to 3 inches per year so they need cuttlebones and extra chewable toys. Energy-packed foods and small rations ensure that the parakeet will get a lot of what it needs most - high quality organic food that is filled to the brim with energy. They need a bathing dish or a mist spray to keep them well hydrated and they greatly enjoy this activity. They need a lot of perches made mostly of wood to keep them occupied. The Parakeet is one of the few pet birds that will reciprocate love so keep them well-loved, entertained, and well-fed for a pet that will return the love. The Parakeet comes from Australia, and it is the most owned and comes in the most variety of colors of any bird. The three parakeets are Australian Budgie, English Budgie, and the American Budgie. The English Budgie is the largest of the three types, and only the American and English versions are available in the United States. The American Budgie is the most common kind seen in pet stores. What most people don't realize is that Budgies can speak hundreds of words if properly trained. Their shrill, tiny, squeaky voices are beautiful and unforgettable. Their voices are not as clear as larger birds, however. Because of their loud calls, they are not recommended for apartment living, and they should not be placed in close confines with people that don't like noise. People say that males talk more than females so assess that at the pet store when you're getting one. The area above their beaks will distinguish whether or not it is a male or female. The cere will be either blue or reddish-brown or pink. Blue is for males, and, funnily enough, pink is for girls. Parakeets are quite noisy, but what increases their noise is having another bird in the cage or noise being made around the house. The cuddle factor of parakeets depends on how they were treated as babies and how they were treated since that time. One more factor to consider is that the cage should be as large as possible because of their long tail feathers. Remember that the no-no foods for parrots are alcohol, avocodo, and chocolate because they can kill your parrot, along with cabbage, asparagus, eggplant, and junk food products as well.
