The willow tit can be found throughout temperate and subarctic Europe and northern Asia. A sedentary bird, its diet consists of caterpillars, insects and seeds. They store food, especially in late summer and autumn, and can be entirely dependent on this during the winter. This small bird was made famous by having a song composed about it by Gilbert & Sullivan in the operetta, "The Mikado."
