Photo Taken By: eorkin

Animal Name: Wood Stork
Animal Type: Bird
Species: Mycteria americana
Measuring about 35 inches long with a wingspan of 66 inches, this large bird holds its neck extended while in flight. It is a wading bird of the southeastern swamps, the only stork that breeds in the United States. They can be found in swamps, marshes, and ponds in the southern United States, and as far south as Argentina in South America. This stork locates food, mostly small fresh water fish, not by sight but by groping with its bill in shallow water.
