The only East African Kingfisher with a bi-coloured bill, Woodland Kingfishers are found in tropical Africa south of the Sahara and from Pretoria northwards. This bird is aggressively territorial, attacking intruders, including humans. Their diet consists of a wide variety of large insects, but also arthropods, snakes, fish and frogs. They prefer drier habitats in more traditional woodland and can be found far from water.
