Native to Puerto Rico and closely related to the Red-winged Blackbird, Yellow-shouldered Blackbirds are non-migratory birds. They are currently considered an endangered species. They forage in trees as well as on the ground, eating seeds, nectar, and insects, especially moths and crickets. Their nests are cup-shaped and placed in cliff crevices, tree hollows or forks, and the bases of palm fronds.
