Photo Taken By:

Animal Name: Zenaida Dove
Animal Type: Bird
Species: Zenaida aurita
The national bird of Anguilla, the Zenaida Dove is often erroneously called a Turtle Dove. Commonly hunted as a game bird, it breeds throughout the West Indies and the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula. These doves mainly eat grains and seeds, but sometimes feed on insects. This bird is smaller than the Mourning Dove, has a shorter, more rounded tail, and is a bit more darkly colored. It shows white on the trailing edge of its wings while in flight.
